The ultra-rare Ford GT40 Mk, built in 1967, is the road-legal version of their famous Le-Mans racer and is expected to fetch around 1.8 million dollars at the auction.
The competitive supercar had been designed to break Ferrari’s dominance over the legendary race, and was a spectacular success, winning four consecutive titles from 1966 to 1969.
Ford built just 31 of these road-going models, with many people regarding it as one of the company’s finest achievements over its 109-year history.
And the car that is up for auction is described as in a “time capsule” condition — with just 4,749 miles on the clock. The pricetag is unlikely to put investors off, with the classic sports car market experiencing incredible success at the moment. Mike Fairbairn, co-founder of RM Auctions, said: “Not only is this car extraordinarily rare, it has desirable low mileage.”
