Six days after the Deccan Chronicle reported that a staff crunch was slowing down processes at the city anti-narcotics cell, the higher authorities have moved quickly to resolve the issue. A new sub inspector and two other constables have been appointed to assist the police inspector in clearing the pending cases at the anti-narcotics cell.
Central Crime Station DCP P. John Victor said the process of strengthening the anti-narcotics cell was on. He said that more police personnel would be recruited soon and better facilities will also be installed. Sources from the Central Crime Station have confirmed that purchase of requisite equipment for the cell would be taking place soon.
There was only one inspector at the anti-narcotics cell six days ago, while the total promised strength of the cell is 47, including an inspector, six sub-inspectors, 10 head constables and 30 constables. Since there is an overall shortage of police personnel in the city, the newly appointed police are attached to the cell from the Special Investigation Team of the Central Crime Station.
