The CBI, probing alleged irregularities in implementation of the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam in Uttar Pradesh (UP), is set to register 50 more FIRs in connection with the case.
The agency has so far registered total 14 FIRs in the NRHM scam.
According to sources fresh FIRs will be registered to probe alleged misuse of funds allocated to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) offices in 72 districts of UP under various NRHM schemes. “Now the CBI is preparing to register district wise FIRs pertaining to the case. If required, the agency may register more than 50 FIRs to probe the scam”, sources said.
“The agency officials are also analysing district wise data on the number and detailed list of beneficiaries under the ‘Janani Suraksha Yojna’ (JSY) for the years 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08. There are allegations that CMOs of around 48 districts allegedly misused central funds released under the NRHM for JSY,” sources said. Probing irregularities related to the implementation of NRHM in all 72 districts in UP is a mammoth task and it will take some time, sources added.
“Investigation into the scam also involves collection and scrutiny of voluminous documents and subsequent field verification. This is the reason that the CBI is again planning to request UP government to provide investigating officers (IOs) to complete the investigation at the earliest”, sources said. The UP government has already agreed to provide it’s four deputy superintendents of the police (DySPs) and eight inspectors to the CBI for assisting the agency in NRHM probe, sources added.
The agency, which has so far registered 14 cases in the NRHM scam, has arrested total 10 persons in connection with the case. Arrested persons include former family welfare minister of state Babu Singh Kushwaha, former BSP MLA BSP MLA Ram Prasad Jaiswal, G.K. Batra, managing director of a company which supplied instruments to government hospitals covered by NRHM, P.K. Jain, general manager (GM) of Jal Nigam, Dr S.P. Ram, former director-general (medical & health and family welfare), Abhay Kumar Vajpayee, GM of UPSIC, and Saurabh.
