Emergency rule in Myanmar unrest-hit state: Official media

Myanmar official media on Sunday announced a state of emergency in its western Rakhine state amid fears of further unrest following an eruption of deadly sectarian violence.

State media reported the move as President Thein Sein addressed the nation about the unrest that saw hundreds of Buddhist villagers' homes set ablaze and left seven dead in rioting on Friday and Saturday in the state which borders Bangladesh.

Earlier state media broadcast the imposition of a curfew in four towns and cities following a spate of clashes in Rakhine between Buddhists and Muslims.
