Ten years ago a degree in social science required a person to study and work hard for about two to five years. But now every Suresh and Ramesh obtains that degree easily by spending at least three-fourth of their lives in front of the computer on social networking sites. These addicts ( including me) always feel whether the Net is working or not, the priority is networking sites. Even though there are so many networking sites across the virtual world, Facebook and Twitter proves to be a Rajinikant of the social networking sites. For many, Facebook takes priority over their own ‘face’. May be that’s because some of their faces are not worth taking priority over. Thanks to Photoshop they survive virtually.
You will find a variety of behavioural patterns in Facebook usage. For some of the users’ full time job is to “Like” others’ posts. First they will Like the statuses and then only read them. Most women change their Profile Pictures more often than they change their mind on what to buy when they go for shopping. Finding a woman with a same profile picture for about three months is as difficult as Munaf Patel bending and fielding a ball. For a woman’s profile picture there will be minimum of 50 Likes even if she looks as weird as a female version of Lalu Prasad Yadav. But even if a guy is a look alike of Hrithik Roshan he would get only 2 Likes. One of them would be himself and the other would be his mom. So many of these users are innovators. They invent their own language especially for a response to a joke. It all started with LOL which is a short term for Laugh Out Loud. Then came ROFL and LMAO and a combination of these two like ROFLMAO. And my innovation for these people is WCYLNYM... Why Can’t You Laugh Normally You Moron??
One thing which I don’t understand about Facebook’s Relationship statuses is why should there be two different statuses like “In a Relationship” and “It’s Complicated”. IT IS of course complicated unless you are ‘single’. We are living in a world where a couple updates their status in FB as ‘single’ even before announcing to each other that they are breaking up. If this continues like this every morning, we’ll have to check our ‘Relationship Status’ in Facebook to know what’s going on in our so-called life.
