Former DGP Shankar M. Bidari on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking his reinstatement as the state police chief, which had been quashed by the Central Administrative Tribunal.
A bench of justices K.S. Radhakrishnan and J.S. Khehar, however, recused themselves from hearing the plea and ordered its listing before a different bench.
Not the one to go down without a fight, Mr Bidari had even sought 15 days leave from the department of personnel & administrative reforms on the day of his retirement, but it was rejected by the government. “Mr Bidari is deemed to have retired today”, said principal secretary, department of personnel & administrative reforms, Mr Mohammed Sanaulla.
“I have not retired. My appointment is based on the Prakash Singh case according to which two-year tenure for the police chief is a must. Let the State government give an endorsement that it will not give two-year tenure to the DG&IGP beyond his retirement. My case is pending before the Supreme Court,” said Mr Bidari.
