With the state facing a severe drought and the ruling party riven by internal differences, the BJP government has decided not to make a big event of its fourth anniversary in office. The BJP came to power on May 30, 2008.
“We are not celebrating the anniversary, it’s an unnecessary burden on the state exchequer”, Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda reasoned while talking to reporters after attending Janata Darshan on Tuesday.
“I am extremely happy that the first BJP government in south India has completed four years but I don’t believe in celebration. Instead, I will try my best to provide good governance”, the Chief Minister said.
“In the past four years, our government did well in implementing several developmental schemes. Our schemes have reached the common man”, the Chief Minister added.
According to him, the main achievement was increasing the Budget outlay from Rs 35,000 crore to Rs 1 lakh crore.
Referring to the petrol price hike, the CM said the government is unable to reduce the duty on petrol and provide relief to consumers because of the code of conduct imposed for the Council elections.
This issue would be looked into once the polls are over, he said.
