The Lokayukta police on Saturday raided the residences and offices of BJP MLA from the Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency M. Srinivas, and relatives, and collected several documents and valuables worth a few crores. Sleuths headed by Lokayukta Bengaluru SP P.K. Shivashankar conducted raids at eight locations, including the houses and offices of Mr Srinivas, his son and other relatives. An educational institution run by his family and couple of industrial sheds located in and around Bengaluru too were raided.
Mr Srinivas’s residence and in Jayanagar and his son and Jayanagar corporator S. Venkatesh Babu’s house in Jayanagar and his office in Uttarahalli were searched. Houses of Rajanna in K.S. Layout, Rashmi D’Souza in Banashankari third stage and Nagaraj in Kadirenahalli were raided. The premises of B. Sukramma Maramma Enterprises in Laggere, RMS International School and an industrial shed on Kanakapura main road too were searched for documents in cases related to amassing wealth more than they could have legally earned.
Documents pertaining to houses and lands, mainly a 50x80 BDA site, and two industrial sheds were confiscated. Papers pertaining to a school and lands in the name of Mr Srinivas, Nagamma and Rathnamma and others, Rs 1 lakh cash, 690 gm of gold and Rs 54.06 lakh deposits at different banks and accounts were recovered. Three suitcases full of documents of houses and land were also found at the residences of Mr Srinivas’s associates, Rajanna and Nagaraja, said Lokayukta Additional DGP H.N. Satyanarayana Rao.
A social activist, Dinesh, had filed a case against Mr Srinivas, alleging that he and his family have accumulated close to Rs 300 crore, mostly through illegal means. The complainant alleges that the MLA, while filing his nomination, had declared his assets incorrectly. His wife Ratnamma, Mr Venkatesh Babu and his daughter-in-law too are accused in the case.
The searches were conducted after the Lokayukta court ordered an investigation into the complaint.
