Seaplane to land by September

Chief minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday said that the government will bring the seaplane to Kochi before September, finally bringing to culmination the decade old project.

“The seaplane project is in the final stage. We hope that when boat terminal work ends by the time of Emerging Kerala meet, the dignitaries would reach Kochi by seaplane,” Chandy said after laying foundation stone of the new boat terminal and Goshree Island Development Authority office complex in Kochi.

According to the CM, Kochi is developing fast and the government will organise a global investment meet named “Emer-ging Kerala” here from September 12-14 this year.

“The meet will be similar to that of Global Investment Meet (GIM) conducted by the A.K. Antony government in 2003.

We have participated in several expos organised in Mumbai and New Delhi and found that several global companies are ready to make investments in the state,” the CM said.

He added that Sam Petroda, adviser to the PM, will arrive in Thiruvananthapuram next week and the government will discuss about industrial development in the state with him.

Meanwhile, the district administration expressed happiness over the announcement of the sea plane project by the CM as it would boost tourism in Ernakulam.

Union minister K.V. Thomas, PWD minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju, V.D. Sathesam MLA, Dominic Presentation MLA, GCDA chairman N. Venugopal, Kochi mayor Tony Chammany, and Ernakulam district panchayat president Eldhose Kunnappilly were present at the function.
