A biker attacked some police officials when they tried to intervene in an altercation between the accused and an elderly man. The incident was reported in Vasant Vihar area at 9 am on Thursday. According to the police, the traffic constable posted in the area saw a young biker having altercation with an elderly who was in a car over overtaking.
The constable tried to resolve the issue and suggested the biker to not use derogatory remarks for the elderly person but he did not stop and started abusing the traffic constable instead.
“The traffic constable then called a nearby PCR van. The policemen from the PCR van tried to resolve the issue but the biker allegedly started abusing them and manhandled a head constable Murarilal who then called for help and other constables rushed and nabbed the accused. During the scuffle the accused tore the uniform of two constables and even bit one,” said a senior police official.
The officers then overpowered the accused and arrested him for attacking policemen. The accused was later identified as Saurav Roy Chaudhary, a resident of Air India Colony, Vasant Vihar. The head constable Murari Lal filed an FIR against the accused.

Woman hangs self, kin allege dowry death

A 22-year-old newly married woman allegedly committed suicide at her residence in outer Delhi, the police said on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Punam Sharma. Punam, a resident of Bulandshahr, got married to Manav Bhardwaj 11 months ago. The incident was reported on Friday evening when the neighbours of the deceased informed her father about the incident.
“We received a call about the incident on Friday and a team was sent to the spot. They found the body hanging from the roof. The body has been sent for autopsy,” said a police official.
Meanwhile the family members of the deceased alleged that her husband and family members were torturing her and had been demanding a dowry of `50 lakh to set up a jewellery shop.
The victim’s father has alleged that they had given enough money after the wedding but they were continuously demanding more.
A team under the supervision of the SDM has been set up to investigate the case as the victim’s family members have alleged dowry death. The victim’s husband and his family are absconding.
