Many students from the North and North Eastern parts of the country who have joined some of the 16 deemed universities which the Prof. Tandon Committee recommended for de-recognition are a worried lot.
The Supreme Court is yet to pronounce its verdict in the case filed by the deemed universities against the HRD ministry’s recommendation to derecognise them and this has increased the students’ worries.
“Nobody knows the reason why the case is pending in the Supreme Court for the past two years. We were expecting the case to be over in a year but since it seems to be going on without an end in sight we don’t know what will happen.
We want the court to deliver its verdict soon so that we would at least get to know our fate,” said Shibu Charan, a student from Jharkhand who has joined a city-based deemed university.
Tejpal, a student from Haryana said “We are apprehensive whether companies will come to our university to conduct campus placements as our varsity has been blacklisted.
Our parents were worried about our future and that’s why they spent several lakhs to get us admitted in this deemed university.”
