Former CPI(M) MP Anil Basu, who had threatened to drag state party secretary and politburo member Biman Bose to court for his suspension, is under the knife of expulsion from the party. Earlier, he was dropped from the CPI(M) state committee in February.
On April 30, the rebel leader was suspended by the CPI(M) for three months for his alleged involvement in corruption, indiscipline and nepotism.
Party insiders indicated that the decision to “expel” him would be conveyed by the party leadership to Mr Basu once his suspension ends.
The possibility of his expulsion started after Hooghly district secretary of the CPI(M) Sudars-han Roy Chowdhury submitted a strong report against him to Mr Bose at the state party headquarters at Alimuddin Street on the occasion of Communist revolutionary Karl Marx’ birth anniversary on May 5. In the report, Mr Basu was blamed on several counts. First was his stunning press meet at his house in Hooghly on May 4, keeping the district committee entirely in dark, according to party sources.

Ad firms roped in to write mamata book

The Mamata Banerjee government has roped in some reputed advertising agencies to prepare a document of its achievements in its first year in office. The book, containing the achievements of the government, will be released shortly. The Mamata Banerjee government assumed office on May 20, 2011.
The government had earlier published two books: first after completion of three months in the office and the second after 200 days. However, unlike these two publications, the first year-ender of the Mamata Banerjee government is all set to be a “ready reckoner” of the government’s performance and ongoing projects. “The book will contain all the achievements of the government since May 20, 2011. It will also have the vision of the government for the coming years to develop and uplift West Bengal,” sources said.
