A woman who was set to marry on May 23 committed suicide after a quarrel with her parents about buying a new bike for her husband-to-be.
Vimala, the daughter of a fish vendor at Periyar Nagar in Vyasarpadi who was to marry a man from Gumudipoondi, hanged herself in her house early on Saturday morning.
“It seems the bride had told her parents that her husband-to-be should also be given a bike. The parents were not keen on doing it because of financial constraints. This seems to have upset Vimala who then killed herself,” the police said.
