The security measures at the Madras high court have come under the scanner after a 35-year-old man committed suicide at the court premises on Saturday.
The incident has sent shock waves among the legal fraternity as it happened a few metres away from the chief justice’s chamber early Saturday morning.
The body was found hanging from a tree and police suspect the person to be a metro rail worker.
“We are yet to trace the identity of the person.
The only clue that was left is an open train ticket to New Jalpaiguri, Assam which we found from the man’s pocket.
He had bought the ticket for Coromandel Express that was scheduled to depart from Chennai early this morning,” said Murali, assistant commissioner, high court.
“The city police had mailed the picture of the deceased to Assam police for identification and further investigation is on,” he added.
The victim was wearing a white collared T-shirt and a blue jean, said the police. The police has registered a case of unnatural death and the body was sent for autopsy at the Government General Hospital.
Following the incident, security has been beefed up at the high court campus.
