A local court here on Friday rejected bail pleas of two women Naxals, whose release the Naxals demanded in exchange of IAS officer Alex Paul Menon’s freedom.
One of them has been convicted for establishing Maoists’ urban network in Chhattisgarh.
Interestingly, the government pleader did not contest their bails, saying that he got direction not to oppose them, according to the defence counsel Sadiq Ali.
Naxals, who released Sukma district collector Alex Paul Menon on Thursday after holding him hostage for 13 days, wanted release of three hardcore Naxals, including the two women Maoists, in exchange of his freedom.
Disposing the cases, additional sessions court judge V.P. Verma said he decided to reject their bail pleas for the second time considering the serious nature of cases they are facing.
Both the bail applicants were currently lodged in Raipur Central jail. They have been marked as hardcore Naxals in police records.
Shanti Priya Reddy, alias Malati, wife of Dandakarany Special Zonal Committee spokesman Gudsa Usendi, alias K. Ramachandra, was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment by a Raipur court in 2010 after being convicted for aiding Maoists to build their urban network in Bhillai, nearly 30 km from here.
Meena Choudhury is an under-trial prisoner facing similar charges.
Both of them hailed from Andhra Pradesh and were arrested in 2008 in Chhattisgarh.
It was only after the bail application of Meena was moved in the Raipur court, the IAS officer was released on Thursday evening.
