Senior IAS officers Rakesh Bahadur and Sanjeev Sharan have been appointed chairman and CEO of Noida on Friday. The posts had been lying vacant since the past 49 days.
Both the officers held the same posts in the previous Samajwadi regime.
Interestingly, both Mr Rakesh Bahadur and Mr Sanjeev Sharan are facing investigations by the state government agencies as well as the Enforcement Direct-orate (ED) on charges of corruption and had remained suspended during the Mayawati regime which had also ordered registration of criminal cases against them for alleged involvement in allocation of plots in Noida for construction of five-star hotels.
The action had come two years after the government had cancelled the said allotments, made in 2006, during the previous Mulayam Singh government, and alleged that the irregularities caused a loss of `4,721 crore to the state exchequer.
The Mayawati government had cancelled the allotment of 14 plots on August 3, 2007. The allottees had challenged the government decision in Allahabad high court.
The court quashed the cancellation order and asked the government to give the allottees personal hearing and then pass an order.
The Mayawati government again cancelled the allotments after hearings.
The Mayawati government had on August 12, 2010 got cases lodged against 15 officials, including Rakesh Bahadur and Sanjeev Saran, and a departmental chargesheet had also been served to them even as the case was pending in court.
The enforcement directorate, in May 2010, had also registered a case of money-laundering and issued notices to three serving and one retired IAS officers of Uttar Pradesh cadre.
