Having conquered Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party is now yearning for a “national” status.
The Samajwadi Party now wants to find a toe-hold in states beyond Uttar Pradesh so that it can not only qualify for a national party status but also develop a pan-Indian image for its leader Mulayam Singh Yadav.
According to sources, the party leadership is now concentrating on strengthening its base in states like Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
“Having entrusted UP politics to his son Akhilesh Yadav, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav will now spend the next few months on working on a strategy to expand the party’s base in these states. We are already in touch with some local leaders who are likely to join the Samajwadi Party soon. Once the modalities are completed, the party will launch an aggressive campaign in these states as a precursor to the Lok Sabha elections,” said a senior SP leader.
The Samajwadi Party plans to cash in on the Akhilesh craze among youth and the state’s youngest chief minister will start addressing rallies in states outside Uttar Pradesh after monsoon.
“The idea is to win over the youth that is enamoured by the success story that Akhilesh has scripted in UP,” the Samajwadi Party leader said.
