Upset at the manner in which university affairs are being managed in the last six months, the state is likely to act tough with both registrar Prof. B. C. Mylarappa as well as V-C Dr.N.Prabhudev. As the governor’s approval is required to act against the VC, the government is contemplating replacing Prof. B.C. Mylarappa as the immediate solution.
Meanwhile, for the second time recently, the university’s non-teaching staff boycotted work, demanding an immediate solution to the problem. According to sources in the higher education department, on Monday officials held a meeting with experts and a few members of state Higher Education Council to find a solution to the crisis that erupted after the sacking of examination department special officer Mr. Syed Jamal and legal adviser Mr. G. Gurumath. “The CM has asked to furnish a report on the recent developments of BU. We will submit a report on Tuesday. A decision on all the controversial issues was taken as per the CM's direction,” said Mr. Siddaiah, principal secretary, higher education department.
Meanwhile, a senior officer of the higher education department said that officials are in touch with the governor's office over the issue. “If the VC convenes a university syndicate meeting, all the problems can be solved through discussion. But even after repeated directions from the government, he has not convened even a single syndicate meeting,” he said.
