Police arrested a grandfather who inflicted wounds on his grandson at Thevalakkara near Chavara South. The grandfather, identified as Krishnan Kutty, was arrested from Karunagapally on Monday.
As per the police, Krishnan Kutty made slashes with a razor on two-year-old Athul on Saturday afternoon and fled the scene.
Hearing the screaming, Sulaja, mother of Athul, rushed in and found her son in a pool of blood.
Neighbours rushed the child to a private hospital at Bharanikavu where his wounds were stitched.
A dispute between Krishnan Kutty and his son Raveendran, father of Athul, resulted in the brutal crime.
