Three years after an EMU was hijacked and then crashed into a stationary goods train at Vysapadi Jiva Station on April 29, 2009, police is still clueless about the identity of the man who drove the train from Chennai MMC Complex, near Central Station, early that morning.
The incident, which occurred at around 5 am, left four dead and many injured. Though three bodies of the victims were identified, police is still trying to figure out the identity of the fourth person, who was believed to be the hijacker.
Police had dispatched special teams to Andhra Pradesh to find out the identity of the suspect, based on tattoos spotted on his hand.
“But it never yielded any result. Three families came claiming the body, however DNA tests showed otherwise,” a police official recalled.
The hijacker had taken control of the EMU before the assigned motorman entered the cabin and smashing it into a stationary train.
There was suspicion that the act was carried out by a Naxal group. But there was nothing to prove the possible involvement of Maoists.
