Good summer showers drive tourists to Ooty hills

Thanks to good showers in the hills here over the past two weeks, the weather is salubrious and there is lush greenery everywhere and the inflow of tourists to the hills has started showing an increase from the second week of April.

Be it the government botanical garden or boat house or Dodabetta peak or rose garden in Ooty or Sim’s park in Coonoor, which are popular tourist spots in the Nilgiris, there has been a steady flow of tourists this summer season.

Describing the hills here as enchantingly beautiful in summer, Ms Alia Nadeem, a tourist from Mangalore, said she thoroughly “enjoys the weather which is most comfortable and enjoyable in summer.

Added to this is the beauty of flowers and greenery in the slopes which makes her trip with her husband enjoyable. I would like to come to these hills again and again in the coming summers,” she said.

In the words of M. Sreejith from Kannur in Kerala, Nilgiris is the best summer getaway in the south for a delightful break.

Saying that the trees in Sim’s park in Coonoor are mesmerising and allure the tourists, he said the visit to the green environment relieves one of stress and rejuvenates the mind.

The officials should appoint some guides with multi-lingual skills to give inputs on the historical background of the park, he suggested.

Expressing his joy over the ongoing summer season, Mr N. Chandrasekar, the secretary of the Nilgiris hotels and restaurants association, said so far the tourist inflow has been good which is keeping the travel and tourism industry busy.

He added that the poor condition of some roads in the hills is a cause for concern.
