The state Crime Investigation Department on Saturday arrested the man it has been hunting for a long time, M. Bhanu Kiran, wanted for the murder of his own gangland boss Gangula Suryana-rayana Reddy, alias Maddalacheruvu Suri, on January 3, 2011.
Bhanu Kiran was arrested in Zaheerabad on the AP-Karnataka border, when he came to collect money from a contact. He has allegedly confessed that he killed Suri due to personal rivalry and because he feared he would be bumped off by Suri.
Bhanu Kiran also allegedly confessed his links with Tollywood producers C. Kalyan and Singanamala Ramesh.
Suri, the man Bhanu Kiran murdered, was the key accused in the murder of former AP minister and Telugu Desam leader, Paritala Ravi. A Congressman, he was involved in several criminal cases in the faction-ridden Anantapur district, and inspired director Ram Gopal Varma to make the film Raktha Charitra. Bhanu Kiran was his close aide for several years and was involved in the murders, extortions and land disputes Suri ordered.
The CID police seized a .32 revolver from Bhanu’s possession which they say he used to kill Suri.
After the murder of Suri, Bhanu went to Gurgaon in Delhi.
