A team led by Bellary corporation commissioner, D L Narayan swung into action on Monday, disconnecting the unauthorised water connections of Ginni Cotton Mills in the city and warning the management of legal action if it persisted in drawing water illegally from the city's supply lines.
Deccan Chronicle had reported on Sunday that Ginni Cotton Mills was using up more than its share of water and causing an acute shortage of supply in nearby Andral village. Corporation officials, who inspected the area , found that the cotton mill was drawing water unauthorisedly and took immediate action to put a stop to it. “Once we noticed the unauthorised water connections, we disconnected them on Monday. We have also warned the mill owners that they will invite more action if they continued to violate the law, ” Mr Narayan said on Wednesday.
This is not the first time that Ginni Mills has drawn water unauthorisedly, according to him. Three months ago the corporation had disconnected its unauthorised lines, but this does not seem to have deterred the mill from doing it all over again. The commissioner appealed to people to bring unauthorised connections to the notice of the city corporation to help it keep them under check.
