Class 10 students who appeared for Maths paper under the samacheer kalvi syllabus on Monday said the paper was tough.
“We were not able to finish the paper on time. Some of my friends even cried as a few questions were very tough. The questions asked were entirely different from the model question papers we had received,” said Prakash, a student.
Asif Alameen, a student of Padma Sarangapani school, Virugambakkam, said, “We thought 1-mark questions would be easy but they were tough and we are upset with the question paper. I will score only 85 marks and some of my friends said 5-mark questions were too lengthy to solve.”
A government school Maths teacher said, “The paper was lengthy and a few questions were indirect. As this is the first time students are writing exams under the samacheer kalvi syllabus, we expected the paper to be easy, but Maths paper was a very big disappointment for the students.”
Mr Sami. Sathyamoorthy, state general secretary, association of heads of high and higher secondary schools of Tamil Nadu, said, “The number of centum will definitely come down.
While 5-mark question No. 31, 32 and 33 were indirect and difficult to solve, question No. 41 on trigonometry was lengthy and vague.
Another question, 45A, was out of syllabus and teachers said the question was from class 10 matriculation syllabus,” he pointed out, and added that average and below-average students, who prepared according to the model question papers, found the paper difficult.
Started on April 4, the examination will end on April 23 with Social Science paper.
