Girls once again outscored boys in the Class 12 CBSE exams which witnessed a dip of about one per cent in overall pass percentage as compared to 2009.
Nearly 5.5 lakh students, out of the over seven lakh who appeared in the Class 12 examination held in March 2010, cleared the hurdle. The success rate of students this year is 79.87 per cent against 81 per cent last year.
2009 pass percentage had marked an increase of 0.09 per cent as compared to the 2008 results.
According to a statement issued by the CBSE, the girls were way ahead of boys as their pass percentage was 85.28 per cent against 75.90 per cent of boys.
Among all the regions of the country, Chennai registered the best results, with a pass rate of 92.17 per cent, while Delhi followed at a distant second at 84.97 per cent. The result of Chennai was declared earlier along with Ajmer and Panchkula.
The Central government-run Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas gave the best performance with 95.31 per cent of students clearing the exam, an improvement of over one percentage point against 2009 94.09 per cent. The Kendriya Vidyalayas maintained their last year’s status by registering a pass rate of 91.13 per cent as against 91.32 per cent in 2009.
However, the performance of state-run schools registered an improvement with a pass rate of 84.49 per cent as against 82.81 per cent last year. The private schools too performed poorly with only 42 per cent students managing to clear the exam as against 49.72 per cent in 2009.
In the Independent schools, 79.42 per cent students cleared the exams, a drop as against 80.94 per cent in 2009. The Central Tibetan Schools under the CBSE registered a pass percentage of 79.25 as against 91.15 per cent in 2009. The overall pass percentage of regular students is 81.95 as compared to 41.99 of private or distance-learning candidates.
