Norman Quentin Cook will be coming to India on a multi-city tour starting May 4. Oh wait! Wondering who Norman Cook is? Let’s be more specific. British DJ Fatboy Slim — now we’ve got your attention — famous for tracks like Weapon of Choice, Praise You, The Rockafeller Skank and Right Here Right Now will be headed to India on his maiden tour. And this time Hyderabad is also one of the pit stops — though “the dates have not been finalised yet”.
Recipient of several MTV Awards, Brit Awards and the Ivor Novello Award, Fatboy Slim also has a star on the city of Brighton’s Walk of Fame, next to Winston Churchill. The DJ has performed in prominent festivals like Glastonbury, Big Beach Boutique, O2 Wireless Festival, Rockness Festival, Coachella Valley Music Festival, Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival, Voodoo Music Experience and Ultra Music Festival.
The city, however, is taking the news of the DJ’s arrival with a pinch of salt. International stars like Pitbull, Metallica, David Guetta and Enrique Iglesias (his performance got cancelled at the last moment) performing in India but not in Hyderabad have made the city cautious about getting excited with this kind of news. Many also feel that the DJ’s music might not appeal to them as it’s mostly electronic.
“I don’t have much to say about him. His music doesn't appeal to me and most of my friends. He is a good DJ and has a few good compositions to his credit. We will have to wait and watch, to see how he is received here!” says Niveditha Murthy, an employee with an MNC in Madhapur.
