Case against son for usurping house

An 80-year-old widow was denied food and allegedly forced out of her Maurya Enclave residence by her son who has been charged by the crime branch for allegedly making forged papers to claim the ownership of the house.
The victim Damyanti Devi had approached a city court which directed the crime branch to register a case under sections of cheating and forgery against her son Harinder Bhangelwal, who currently lives at the disputed property in west Delhi’s Maurya Enclave area with his wife and two children.
The court had also asked the police to investigate the allegations of harassment and mistreatment levelled by the victim against her son. The victim, who is facing multiple medical complications and is bed-ridden for about one-and-a-half years, told the court that her son didn’t provide her food and medicines at their Maurya Enclave residence after which she escaped to Noida in 2010.
The victim’s husband Babu Ram, who retired as a Class I officer from the central government, had expired in 1984, leaving behind a house at CP 26, Maurya Enclave, Pitampura. The deceased had not executed any will nor had transferred the property to any other person. The couple has six daughters and a son, all of whom are married.
The accused, however, made his five sisters relinquish their share in property to him in 2006 and allegedly got a forged will, purportedly signed by his father, made in which he was declared the owner of the house. One of his sisters, Vandana Sharma, refused to give up her share.
The accused then took his illiterate mother to DDA office where he made her sign a relinquishment deed by which the victim offered her share in property to her son in 2009, telling her that the house was being transferred in her name. After the victim signed the deed, she was allegedly harassed and mistreated by her son and his wife at the Maurya Enclave house after which she escaped to her daughter Vandana’s Noida house. A case was registered by the Economic Offences Wing on Tuesday.
