[1]Former president Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Wednesday stressed on the need for more research in nano-technology to develop devices for societal needs.
Delivering the graduation address at Sairam Engineering College in the city, he said that nano robots, when injected into a patient, would diagnose and deliver treatment exclusively to the affected area and then get digested.
“I saw the product sample in one of the labs in South Korea where the best of minds work with multiple technologies with a target of finding out-of-the-box solutions,” he said.
Pointing out that the global demand had started to shift towards development of sustainable systems, Dr Kalam said that these had become the new dimension for the 21st century knowledge society.
“Science, technology and environment will have to go together. Thus, the new age model would be four-dimensional: bio-nano-info-eco based,” he added.
The former president exhorted students to cultivate creative minds and thereby invent new things. “With imagining and constant effort, all the forces of the universe work for that inspired mind, thereby leading to inventions and discoveries,” he said.
Mr Leo Muthu, chairman of the college urged students to realise Dr Kalam’s dream of a developed nation by 2020. “As responsible youths, I am certain that you will become responsible citizens of this country. We have to emulate Dr Kalam’s vision to take the country forward,” he said.
Mr Sai Prakash, chief executive officer of the college, said that 865 students had graduated this year. “Sixty-one students from our college have bagged top ranks in the semester examination conducted by Anna University,” he added.
