[1]CPI(M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury on Saturday said that even though the party wanted a peaceful transition towards socialism through parliamentary path, the class enemy would not allow such a non-violent change and hence the cadre should be prepared for any exigency.
“We want to follow the peaceful parliamentary path. But I am not confident my class enemy would want a peaceful transition. To be forewarned is to be forearmed,’’ he said, while replying to a question.
“The CPI(M) is striving to achieve the establishment of people’s democracy and socialist transformation through peaceful means.
However, it should be borne in mind that the ruling classes never relinquish their power voluntarily. Therefore, it is necessary for the revolutionary forces to be vigilant and so orient their work that they can face up to all contingencies to any twist and turn in the political life of the country,’’ says the resolution.
Even though the party has not clarified whether it was on the threshold of such an exigency, the CC meeting in Vijayawada had pointed out that parliamentary democracy itself was getting corroded by neo liberalism. However, the party has sought to differentiate its revolutionary path from that of the Maoists.
It said the Maoists continued to characterize the Indian ruling classes as Comprador and adhered to a strategy of immediate armed struggle against the state.
