Union corporate affairs minister M. Veerappa Moily wants to try out the novel “Gandhi Nadige” programme to revive the Congress in the five districts of Hyderabad-Karnataka region, which were once the bastion of Congress.
Mr Moily said under the programme, the party cadre would be trained to develop a positive mindset and wean them away from the influence of money and caste factors, which are playing a dominant role in the present day politics. “We should do away with the old practice of spending our entire energy on criticising the opposing parties. We’ve to be articulate and inculcate positive approach,” he said.
Mr Moily, who has been put in charge of Gulbarga division by the AICC to revive the party fortunes, said that the “Gandhi Nadige” has already been tested in Andhra Pradesh and Assam and it has yielded good results by bringing the party back to power. “I am also following it in the Chikballapur Lok Sabha constituency represented by me,” he added.
He felt that there is a greater need to give respect and responsibility to party workers, especially the youngsters who join the Congress. “We should follow the principles of inclusive politics by involving all castes and communities. There is a sense of alienation among certain castes which should be dispelled,” he said.
Asked what affected the party in the HK region, where it has lost a lot of ground to the BJP, he said that though he understood the reasons, he would not like to discuss them before the media. “I have been appointed to find a cure for the ailment,” the minister said.
