As many as 21 students of a CBSE school in Thiruvotriyur, have received transfer certificates and report cards through post, giving a jolt to them and their parents who alleged that the school collected excess fees and when they told the school saying that they were ready to pay the fees fixed by the Private Schools Fee Determination Committee, the school management refused to accept it.
S. Vinayaka Murthy, secretary of the Kavi Bharathi Vidyalaya Student-Parent Association, alleged that 40 other students who had paid fees fixed by the Fee Determination Committee were also given warning notices that they should pay the remaining fees before April 5 failing which they would be dismissed.
“We’ve sent the fees fixed by the Fee Determination Committee for 21 students through post on Tuesday. The school management refused to accept the fees,” said Shanmuga Sundaram, he parent of a student.
However, Meena Suresh, senior principal of the school said, “The 21 students did not pay the fees for this academic year (2011-2012). The school waited for them to pay the fees till March 31 and only then did we send the transfer certificates and report cards to these students through registered post.” “Also, those students who have paid partial fees were requested to pay the remaining fees,” said Suresh.
When asked whether the students will be taken back if they pay the fees, she said, “I’ve to wait and see. The school management committee will decide and we’re entitled to collect fees.”
Meanwhile, the student-parent association has lodged a complaint with Justice Singaravelu Fee Fixation Committee. The school reopens on April 11 and the association hopes that the students will be taken back.
