The number of swine flu cases in the city has gone up to eight with four new patients testing positive on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, an exclusive 20-bed ward to treat swine flu patients was opened at the Rajiv Government General Hospital on Wednesday.
A few days back, an elderly farmer from Tirupur, who was diagnosed with the A(HINI) virus, had died following which the state was put on high alert.
On Tuesday, two men and two women from various parts of the city like Saidapet, Ambattur and Taramani were diagnosed with the flu, taking the number of positive cases to eight. They are currently undergoing treatment at private hospitals.
Meanwhile the two young girls who had tested positive for Swine Flu two days ago at Stanley Medical College Hospital and had left without informing the doctors, were traced at Korukkupet. “We have brought them back to the hospital and started their treatment,” said a doctor at Stanley.
In order to create awareness about the A(HINI) virus, top health officials and experts on Wednesday met at the Rajiv Government General Hospital to discuss precautionary measures to be taken and interacted with patients. “We explained about the virus and asked people who had symptoms of the flu to follow doctors’ advice and stay away from crowded places,” said Dr Kanagasabai, dean of GH.
The Health department, meanwhile, has assured that they have enough stock of Tamiflu and if required, more tablets would be procured.
