‘King to servant’: BSY eats humble pie

Having received a cold response so far from the BJP leadership to his demands, former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa struck a humbled pose on Wednesday. When asked by reporters about his supporters' claim that he was very powerful in the BJP, he replied, “I did feel powerful once but now I have realised my position in the party. I am not a king but only a servant."

Mr Yeddyurappa, who was here as part of his tour of drought-hit districts, said to another question, "I have worked for the welfare of the people of the state for the past 40 years without any position. There's no need to attach a great deal of significance to my tour of drought-hit districts. As a former CM, it is my duty to respond to the problems of the people in districts reeling under severe drought.”

Asked about his supporters clamouring for a suitable position for him in the party, he claimed, “This is their wish, not mine. I have not opened my mouth as the party high command has advised me to be silent."

On Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda showing his media advisor, R.P. Jagadeesh, the door on Tuesday, he said while he had chosen Mr Jagadeesh for the post when in office, there was no rule that he should be retained by his successor. "The CM is at liberty to opt for anyone of his choice. I am not going to interfere in this matter," he added.
