Soon, you will be able to enjoy lip-smacking dishes at Namma Metro stations. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is planning to start food courts, on the lines of darshinis, in and around the stations on its Reach 1 from Byappanahalli to MG Road. This is one of the many initiatives being planned by Namma Metro to provide facilities of international standards to its commuters and others.
The Metro now wants to cash in on its stations and properties that are situated in the prime commercial hubs of the city, like MG Road. BMRCL proposes to leverage on both the brand “Namma Metro” and the stations and properties. BMRCL believes that licensing of properties near Metro stations could be a huge source of non-fare revenue.
“We want to provide facilities of international standard at Metro stations. We will shortly float tenders to set up darshni-type food courts in the identified stations along Reach-1 line between Byappanahalli and MG Road. We are also planning small kiosks where Metro passengers and others can buy their daily needs. Bookstores and medical stores could come up at the commercial spaces available with BMRCL. These initiatives will fall in place in the next couple of months,” said BMRCL General Manager for Finance Vasanth Rao.
The Namma Metro is planning to create hubs of commercial and recreational activity around the Metro stations along Reach-1. BMRCL has already floated tenders for issuing licences for such spaces.
