Calling for a common fee structure in all colleges of the country, Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan said when a student pays Rs 1 crore for a medical seat, he would certainly earn Rs 10 crore in a very short span of time forgetting all value systems and ethics.
Delivering the 11th graduation address at Rajalakshmi engineering college in the city on Tuesday, Mr Narasimhan said colleges have replaced Goddess Saraswathi with Lakshmi and making profit beyond a stage is absurd. “We need to make a common fees structure across the country,” he said.
Pointing out that medical and engineering college fees structure frightens parents, the governor said the government and colleges need to work out fees which could be paid by a common man. “I totally oppose exorbitant fees structure and we need to re-look into it.
The emphasis on science and research has also dwindled as we are looking at making money. I think we need to discover life by making research,” he said.
Mr Narasimhan exhorted the students not to consume alcohol to de-stress. “When you are happy or sad or dejected you consume alcohol to relieve your stress which is not fair: you have various other means to bust your stress,” he added.
