[1]Imran Khan of Star Singer fame, who was 186 kilograms five months back, has come down to 133 after undergoing the bariatric surgery under Dr. Mohamed Ismail five months ago.
Bubbling with energy, he told the 500 strong crowd at the IMA Hall in Kochi, that he is on course to reducing it further. The gathering comprised nearly 50 persons who underwent the same surgery and are at different stages of weight reduction.
“Since Imran follows a strict exercise regime, it is possible to reduce his weight to around 85 kg in one year,” said Dr Ismail at Moulana Hospital, Perinthalmanna.
Various obese people who were living in the 110 kg plus zone had different stories to tell of putting on so much weight and then reducing it with the aid of Dr. Ismail.
Anu John (34) who came from Nagercoil for the meet said the use of medicine for asthma increased his weight to 167 kg, and he had no other choice to but to take the medicine.
His mother was all praise for Dr. Ismail for bringing down the weight of Anu to the current 84. Lakshmi, a teacher from Thrissur, whose eating habits took her weight to 112 kg is now 60 kg after the surgery.
Dr. Ismail says he conducts two types of surgery – one to reduce weight of those having a body mass index (BMI) of above 32, who belong to morbid obese category, and the other surgery for taking diabetes patients out of the grip of diabetes.
The meet was also attended by obese adults who were keen to know the intricacies of the surgery.
