[1]A day after a head constable and lady constable attached to Halasuru police station were allegedly attacked by a group of advocates at the city magistrate court following the ongoing fracas between the police and the advocates, the city police’s attempt to arrest the remaining accused proved futile.
Early on Wednesday morning, a police team led by an ACP arrived at the residence of advocate Vishwanath in Vijaynagar. The accused managed to flee from the back door of the house after jumping from the first floor. The police have dispatched four teams to arrest the remaining 19 advocates, some of whom have fled to Hassan and Tumkur among other places.
While head constable Basavaraj is still undergoing treatment at Mallya Hospital, the woman constable Roopa who was also attacked and pushed around has been discharged. “The department is taking care of all the medical expenses of two police officers’’, said Additional Commissioner, T. Suneel Kumar, who is monitoring the case, adding that the police will arrest all the accused shortly.
“We have information about the whereabouts of the accused, it’s just a matter of time’’. He also said that to ensure such incidents do not recur, a letter is being sent to High Court registrar concerning safety and security in the court premises. Head constable Basavaraj, who was injured in the attack, said that he was attacked without any reason and that he was not upset by the incident.
“These kinds of incidents are common in the department. If duty calls, I will go back to court.” Though there is simmering tension between the advocates and policemen there was no untoward incident at the courts in the city. The magistrates court at Nrupathunga Road and near Mayo Hall was calm and peaceful.
