Talking about how he feels on being lodged in the Chanchalguda Jail, IAS official and former home secretary B.P. Acharya said, “In jail, I have seen the other prisoners. Perhaps most of them are not real culprits. They are in jail due to certain circumstances. I found a human angle with them.”
On the Emaar deal, he said, “The agreement with Stylish Holmes was reached before I took up the APIIC job.” He had been APIIC vice-chairman and MD after L.V. Subrahmanyam. About the bureaucracy’s recurrent complaint that IAS officials were being targeted by the CBI, he said, “There is a trend in the country where, in the name of fight against corruption, the agencies become soft targets. Honest and innocent people are framed. The real culprits are left out and people like me are made scapegoats. Bureaucrats can’t work under these circumstances. Decisions taken in good faith have to be defended by the government. When there is no malafide intention behind decisions, the officials should not be targeted. There will be an adverse impact on the development of the state in the long run.”
He said, “I have confidence in the courts. The allegations levelled against me are baseless. Dharma will win. I have a long battle to fight. I will prove my innocence,” adding, “I will reply to the memo of the state government. I am finalising it.”
