The Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) of the University of Mumbai was once again the venue for chaos and mayhem on Monday, after nearly 4,000 students of the first year of commerce turned up to collect their hall tickets.
According to IDOL officials, the confusion was caused due to a misunderstanding of the University’s announcement on its
website, wherein it had stated that students would be getting their hall tickets at the institute.
However, the notification was only meant for repeaters, but freshers also turned up which resulted in the chaos.
According to Ramesh Talekar, the brother of an IDOL student who is to appear for the FYBCom exams starting on March 30, he was shocked to see thousands of students crowding the institute at around 10 am.
“Due to the large number of students no one had any clue as to what was happening or where the hall tickets would be distributed,” Mr Talekar said.
Last week, a similar situation had arisen when the hall tickets were distributed for TYBCom students.
When asked about the same, Dr D. Harichandan, director of the IDOL, admitted that the confusion was primarily because of the ambiguity in the announcement on the University website.
“Steps were taken immediately to put the confusion to rest, as only repeater students were to get their hall tickets at the institute. Freshers or regular students can download their hall tickets from the University website and directly go to their examination centres,” Dr Harichandan said.
