Lake rejuvenation
The State has allotted Rs 50 crore for lake development. It has also directed the BBMP and BDA to jointly raise Rs 100 crore for rejuvenation of lakes.
Drinking water
The BWSSB received Rs 1,000 crore for carrying out ongoing work of the Cauvery Water Supply Scheme (Stage IV Phase II) and other projects related to reduction in unaccounted for water, underground drainage system (under KMRP) and sewage treatment plants. The role of KUWS&DB will be more focused as a bulk water transmission entity for all urban areas through suitable legal, administrative and financial measures.
Elevated road
In a bid to allot sites to citizens, the BDA has been directed to develop Kempegowda Layout this fiscal. The State government will also develop the outer ring road, and elevated roads for smooth flow of vehicles. That apart, project preparation and acquisition of land has been ordered for the completion of a peripheral ring road to provide connectivity to the periphery of the city.
With land becoming scarce and expensive in the city, the State government plans to come out with a vertical growth policy for development.
The aim is to provide better civic amenities for citizens and curb unauthorised and illegal growth. It also helps to provide more space for roads and parking facilities.
Managing waste
Scientifically managing solid waste generated in the city is a major challenge. The government proposed 16 methane generation projects using wet solid waste for the current fiscal. All the 16 plants will be executed in the public private partnership.
Housing
The State has made a total outlay of Rs 1439 crore for the housing sector. Subsidy under the Housing Scheme will be enhanced from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 and the per-unit cost for house construction will be enhanced to Rs 1 lakh. An amount of Rs 75 crore has been earmarked to provide infrastructural facilities in the slum areas in the State this year. Suitable amendments will be made to the joint venture policy of the KHB Karnataka Housing Board to attract private invest-ors. Housing will be provided for low, middle, and high income groups in urban areas across state.
Slum-free state
To make the State slum free, the government has announced the Karnataka Slum Re-Development policy which enables regularisation and redevelopment of slums. In 2011-12 KSDB built 24,562 houses under IHSDP and BSUP. Another 17,183 houses are being built and will be completed by December 2012. For the first time the government has provided opportunity for constructing houses by beneficiaries on their agricultural/cultivable lands who lack house-sites. For this purpose the conversion powers have been given to the tahsildars. For the low income group, government has distributed 1,500 plots at affordable prices in four places around Bengaluru under a new scheme, the Nanna Mane Yojane (Affordable Housing Scheme).
