Now, 'starlet' caught in match fixing report says she DID meet cricketers

Fresh revelations have now emerged claiming 'Bollywood starlet' Nupur Mehta did meet cricketers in London during 2009 Twenty20 World Cup.

She said she met them 'by chance'.

In an interview to the Sunday Times, which broke the story on suspected match fixing during the 2009 tournament, Mehta adds that there was 'no harm in meeting players'.

"I didn't think that meeting them (cricketers) was any kind of harm. I'm a young girl who loves cricket," she said.

She had earlier slammed the report saying she never had contact with anything cricket.

"I am nowhere connected to any match fixing nor am I connected to any bookie syndicate. I don't know any cricketer in person nor have dealt with any bookie or attended any matches in past. In fact, I am perplexed to know how my name has surfaced in this controversy,” Mehta had said.

Despite the actress/model threatening to sue The Sunday Times over its report that bookies used her to lure cricketers into match fixing, and the International Cricket Council denying the same, the British newspaper stands by its report.

The report claimed that a few matches in last year’s World Cup were suspicious.

“The Sunday Times stands by its story which raises important questions about the integrity of cricket,” said James Mellor, spokesman of the newspaper, to DC exclusively from London.

“We are aware of the comments made by Nupur Mehta,” he said.

“Our dossier of evidence will be made available to the International Cricket Council (ICC) which has agreed to investigate the matter in full. In the circumstances, we will be making no further comment at this time.”

“We have had many emails on the subject,” said another official of the paper, Olivia.
