With rapidly soaring temperatures, the state witnessed an all-time high power demand of 305 MU on Saturday. Meanwhile, with the power deficit in the state increasing rapidly and already touching 45 MU per day, the city is getting no respite from power cuts. Many areas in the city are being subjected to multiple hours of power cuts daily. This is apart from the industrial sector already being crippled with the imposed power holidays. Despite assurances, night-time power supply from 6 pm to 6 am — in view of examinations — and immediate respite from power cuts to the small industries sector has not materialised.
“Apart from two hours of power cuts daily, we are facing cuts numerous times on certain days. It’s especially difficult for kids who need to study. With long hours of power cuts, everything has to be planned around the power supply,” said P. Shailaja, a resident of Vijaynagar Colony. The power utilities, meanwhile, have already indicated that there is no possibility of any respite from power cuts given the increasing deficit. On the other hand, small, medium and large industries have been agitating for over a month now. Though they had received some assurances, they are yet to see the power holidays being lifted.
