Trinamul leader and MP Kalyan Banerjee on Saturday morning called railway minister Dinesh Trivedi and conveyed to him Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s order that he should quit. Mr Trivedi told him that he would quit only after he received written instructions from Ms Banerjee.
At this, sources disclosed, Mr Kalyan Banerjee replied: “You did not seek written instructions when you were asked to take over as railway minister.” Mr Trivedi quipped: “My name was sent to the Prime Minister. That was official.”
Sources further disclosed that Mr Kalyan Banerjee faced Ms Banerjee’s wrath when he tried to persuade her to issue Mr Trivedi written instructions. “You all leave the party,” Ms Banerjee reportedly shot back. Later at the Writers’ Building, Ms Banerjee told Trinamul Parliamentary Party leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay that “no written instructions will be given to Trivedi and that he should quit on his own”.
