Governor H.R. Bhardwaj on Saturday reiterated that the media, police and advocates should sit together and work out a solution, saying that disrespect for each other always end up in such extreme situations. Reacting to the impasse, the Governor felt the police should be left to do their work. “Police give protection to advocates round the clock at the courts. Can society function without a police force,” the Governor asked, expressing his concern over the constant threat of anti-social elements in society.
If there has been a mistake on anyone’s part, it is best to forget and forgive, as the prime duty of all the three – media, lawyers and police - is to work for the betterment of the society. “I have heard all of them several times. They can come any time. The doors of Raj Bhavan are always open. But they don’t listen, and that is the difficulty,” he said adding that Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen, whose duty is to run the courts, is looking into the matter and everyone should assist him.
Earlier, addressing a state-level conference organised by Karnataka Prosecuting Officer’s Association, he stressed the role of public prosecutors and argued that it is important for prosecutors to work independently.
Minister R. Ashok said the government has created 197 new posts of assistant public prosecutors and 63 posts of public prosecutors and also promoted 76 assistant public prosecutors to public prosecutors. He expressed hope that the lawyers’ boycott of courts will end soon.
