The advocates’ association has yet again turned down an appeal by Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen to call off their strike, and instead, deciding to continue their boycott. The association office-bearers have also resolved to go on a hunger strike on Wednesday morning when the bench headed by the CJ is set to hear a batch of petitions filed by them against state, police and media.
The CJ had earlier made it very clear while hearing a PIL that he would not entertain their cases until they call off their strike and get back to work, as it is against a Supreme Court direction. Around 50 members of the association have decided to sit on a day’s hunger strike at the City Civil Courts complex on Wednesday along with some young members who are already on serial hunger strike. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, association president K.N. Subba Reddy said when he, along with some association members, met the CJ on Tuesday, he requested all the members to get back to work. “We are not against your agitation, but it should be done peacefully without abstaining from work to draw the attention of the authorities concerned,” said Mr Reddy quoting the CJ. A huge rally is on the cards with the participation of advocates from across the state, he said.
