Arrested Maoist functionary from Andhra Pradesh Sadanala Ramakrishna was staying in West Bengal for the last seven months under a fake name, the STF of the Kolkata police learnt after interrogating him. The STF has found that the central technical committee head of the banned outfit had hired a room on rent at Birati in North 24 Parganas in August, 2011. Introducing himself as Rajesh Sau, he had started staying as a tenant at Moinak Apartment in Ayodhyanagar, according to STF sources.
Another man whom Ramakrishna had introduced as his relative, also stayed with him, a STF official disclosed.
On Sunday morning, a STF team raided the flat. Ramakrishna and another arrested rebel with their faces covered, were also taken to the house. Joint commissioner of police (STF) Rajeev Mishra said, “Around `36 lakhs were recovered from there. Maoist literature and documents relating to procurement of materials and manufacturing of rocket launchers were also recovered. These materials are now being examined thoroughly.”
In addition to this, `60 lakhs were also recovered from other hideouts in the city during separate STF raids. The huge funds were meant to be used for procuring arms and ammunition to sustain the Left wing extremists’ armed struggle, the STF has learnt.
Ramakrishna’s entire focus was on procurement of good quality arms and the others helped him by collecting the funds. Further interrogation of the arrested rebels, who are in police custody now, threw light on the northeastern states from where the purchase of weapons were to be made.
Ramakrishna was arrested with four other Maoists in a joint operation by the STF and Greyhounds of the Andhra Pradesh police on February 29.
