Chief electoral officer Umesh Sinha said in Lucknow on Saturday, “This is the first election without even a single incident of violence and minimum complaints, most of which were related to EVM functioning. We had a total of 12.73 crore voters and, of these, 7.53 crore caste their votes in these elections.”
In 2007, the average voter turnout was 46.07 while the second highest voter turnout was recorded in 1993 with an average of 57.13 per cent.
In the seventh phase, the highest turnout was in Jyotiba Phule Nagar, which recorded a 67.25 per cent turnout, while the lowest was in Badaun at 59.17 per cent.
This phase was earlier scheduled for February 4 but was later postponed to March 3.
In the 2007 Assembly polls, the BSP had bagged 27 of these seats while the SP and BJP had got 17 and nine seats respectively.
With this phase, the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh have drawn to a close and the stage is now set for counting of votes on March 6.
