UP chief minister Mayawati said on Sunday that the BSP would performance even better than it did in 2007 and she would again form the government in Uttar Pradesh.
The chief minister, who came to cast her vote at the Lucknow Montessori School around noon, stopped by to talk to reporters.
“Just look at the turnout in my rallies. This shows that people are appreciating the working and governance in my regime. The BSP will improve its previous tally and we are going to form the government again,” she said.
The chief minister, who was accompanied by BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra, did not take any more questions from journalists who had waited for her since morning.
Ms Mayawati, interestingly, has not interacted with the media throughout the elections and the last time that she addressed a press conference was on January 15 when she celebrated her birthday and also released the official list of BSP candidates for these polls.
In all her speeches, Ms Mayawati has been asking her voters to beware of the media and the stories that appear in it. She has accused the media of playing into the hands of Opposition parties and running a misinformation campaign against her and her party.
The BSP had won 206 seats in 2007 becoming the first government with its own majority in UP after 1989.
Meanwhile, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav also told reporters that his party was heading towards a comfortable majority in the ongoing elections. “You can see a wave against the BSP and the Samajwadi Party has already emerged as a viable alternative. After four phases of polling, I can safely say that we are on our way to form the government,” he said.
UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi said after casting her vote that Mr Rahul Gandhi’s efforts had started bearing results.
