[1]Union minister V. Narayanasamy has said the Prime Minister can get involved in finding a solution to the long-drawn Mullaiperiyar dam tussle only if Tamil Nadu and Kerala withdraw their petitions from the Supreme Court and agree to a negotiated solution.
He would not be able to intervene when the issue is before the court, explained the minister while addressing the all-India editors conference on social issues here on Saturday.
Explaining that the two states have two options left on the issue, he said, “The first one is they can wait for the judgment of the Supreme Court. The second one is, both chief ministers can come together and sit to resolve the issue. Then the Prime Minister can involve in solving the dispute.”
During his speech, Mr Narayanasamy listed out various legislation brought in by UPA-II to improve transparency in and accountability of the government.
“The Opposition parties should allow Parliament to function. We have a list of bills to be passed. According to the grievance redressal bill, a common man can demand penal action against the department for delay in reaching a service to him. The delay in providing electricity, foodgrains in ration shops and many other services can be reported by the people. Suitable action would be taken under this bill.”
Speaking about the Lok Pal bill, he said, “We accepted the suggestions of Team Anna. But every bill has to be passed only after getting the consent from all parliamentarians as per the Constitution. We will make amendments and introduce the bill shortly.”
