It’s an open secret that Deras (sect headquarters) play a key role in deciding the electorate fortunes in Punjab, but the Deras are making news even after the elections are over in the state.
With Dera not deciding which party to support, the list of its friends and detractors seem to change during the elections and even after. It has come to light that the Punjab police has filed an application in the court of chief judicial magistrate on January 27 just three days prior to the state was slated for elections. The affidavit was stating that case against controversial head of the Dera Sacha Sauda Guru Ram Rahim should be cancelled.
Now as an embarrassment for the state police, the complainant Rajinder Singh Sidhu, who filed a case against the Dera chief, has said in a local court on Saturday that he has never filed any affidavit or the cancellation of case, as the Punjab police is claiming.
Interestingly, the application submitted by the police has an “affidavit” of complainant that states he had not seen the Dera head dressed as Sri Guru Gobind Singh (Tenth Sikh Guru) at his Dera.
